Colloidal Silver is a mineral solution containing silver ions & very small charged silver particles suspended in a medium (distilled water). As the particles have the same electrostatic charge (Zeta potential), they repel each other and this keeps them in uniform suspension throughout the medium. This is why it is called a colloid. It is not a medicine, it is an antimicrobial mineral solution. We make Electrically Isolated Colloidal Silver (EIS) which means it contains both ionic and particulate silver at an approximate ratio of 80% ionic & 20% particulate silver. It is important to understand that the silver particles are not dissolved but held in suspension by electrostatic charges. Without them, it would not be a colloid and not Colloidal Silver. Although silver ions are important, a 100% solution of silver ions is NOT Colloidal Silver. Various names have been used to describe Colloidal Silver, such as Silver Sols. It is sometimes referred to as "Nano Silver" as the particles are in the range of 1 to 40 nm (Nanometres) or .001 to .04 um (Micrometres). Many sites use marketing names and technology. The Latin word for silver is Argentum and various brand names can be found, which are generally just marketing ideas. Another word that crops up is "Oligodynamic" and the words "Bioavailable" are often used. We don't believe in marketing because this is a natural substance given to us by nature. It is not for us to rebrand it, we just manufacture it naturally & carefully then make it available as Colloidal Silver. Oligodynamic is an antimicrobial effect of metal-ions in relatively low concentrations. See Wikipedia. Bioavailibility describes the fraction of dose of medication that reaches the systemic circulation. See Wikipedia. It is very important that you understand there are products containing silver salts and proteins (MSP or CSP) that are also called Colloidal Silver. This is untrue and very misleading. These have been proved to develop Argyria and could also be inherently dangerous and must be avoided. See "Toxic Soup" Below.

| 1 | Most commercially available generators consist of an integrated unit containing an electrode assembly and a large plastic vessel with a tap at the bottom. After a production run, the solution is most likely bottled and shipped to the customer. As mentioned above, we have found that it takes several hours for the colloid to reach equilibrium (Mature) & its distinctive colour to develop. Only then can quality & stability be assured. We estimate 10% - 20% fails to mature and is discarded. What happens to theirs ? |
| 2 | The level of knowledge required to build a Colloidal Silver generator & understand the dynamics of the reaction is only at the Physics and Chemistry A-Level standard. Expertise in any manufacturing process is vitally important, especially to identify when things don't go according to plan. In my opinion, there is a high probability that owners of commercial generators have bought them because they lack the expertise to design and construct their own generator, which in turn suggests that they lack the expertise and understanding to ensure a safe, consistent quality product. |

We manufacture & mature our Colloidal Silver in the dark, to help extend its shelf life. Commercially generators are generally too large and not designed to fit into light proof housings. Most designs are open to contamination where ours are covered throughout the process. These may be small points but we believe they are important. There are many sites, especially in the USA where there are many examples of aggressive marketing, blatant inaccuracies & contradictory scientific statements. This only confirms to me that there are many people out there who really do not know what they are doing and are probably only interested in financial gain. This unfortunately, gives credibility to the legislation in the EU & US which is trying to regulate (Eliminate) sites such as ours, that are providing extensive information and a quality product. |

Because thats all we need to do! Some suppliers state they are using dual and even triple pass distillation units. That means the water had been distilled two or three times, which is an incredible waste of energy. The reason we use a single pass system is because our natural pure Devon water is extremely soft to start with and that is all that it needs, which is why we are here in the first place! As the energy consumption for distilling the water is the highest energy use in the entire process, it makes sense to ensure that its used wisely.
We suggest that those who use a multi-pass distillation process are in hard water areas, consuming much more energy than necessary or are using it as "Marketing" to make you think their water is purer and therefore better. Unfortunately that is not really the case, as I have explained in the research section, as pure water doesn't conduct electricity, so if the water is too pure an additive will be required which is totally undesirable.

This section is in direct reply to a client, Jan , who read an article believed to be similar to this one here stating that silver should not be used because it is a heavy metal and will accumulate in the liver. After two days of research I cannot find any article that suggests this.
Why There is
No Scientific of Medically Significant Basis to Classify Silver as a Heavy
Metal See here
I conclude that the author of the article is using a "Silver scare" tactic, to differentiate themselves from other manufacturers to make their product seem better. NASA uses silver to recycle/purify water in the space shuttle & claim it is the purest water you can get. We know about lead, mercury, chromium (Hex) poisoning and I would be quite sure that if silver had the slightest health issue, we would know about it & we certainly wouldn't use silver for jewellery or utensils. True, some people have an allergic reaction to silver jewellery but that could be due to the use of sterling silver which has a high level of impurities (10%).
Churches use silver chalices to prevent transmission of infection when taking communion. The thought of sharing wine between dozens of people would be an ideal way of spreading an infection. I do not know of any incident where this has happened & I am quite sure the media would have picked up on any medical issues arising from it.
The US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) state that the safe daily RFD (Reference Dose) is 5E10-3 or 50 ug daily.
See http://www.epa.gov/iris/subst/0099.htm for the full report.

There are certain sites out there that are trying to discredit EIS Colloidal Silver and are marketing Mild Silver Proteins or Colloidal Silver Proteins (MSP/CSP). I would certainly recommend you read the following page, which is my answer to the "Allegations" they have published. If you don't have time then you may be interested to know that two of the main characters involved are currently in a US jail & also, I suspect, were probably not listening in their chemistry lessons at school!

There are several manufacturers that say they use 99.99% and even 99.999% silver. We have found that anything purer than 99.9% (Known as .999 fine silver) is quite difficult to obtain, very expensive and actually, unecessary.
Peter Lindemann has written an article and he shows that the quality of the water is more important than a slight increase in purity of the silver. See the section "Purity of Silver". The article is in Research section or click here.

No! There is a theoretical maximum of 26 PPM and solutions above that are ineffective as the particles will become too large.
The Parts Per Million ( PPM ) issue is very confusing. Should one use a colloidal silver product with a high concentration or low one?
There are many technical considerations to address in making this determination. Generally speaking, a 3 - 10 PPM high quality colloidal silver product is a sufficient concentration for effectiveness in the body. With extremely clean production methods, one can achieve a high quality colloidal silver at slightly greater concentrations. Currently, our opinion is that a 26 ppm is the cap on the highest quality isolated silver product, as determined by TEM, with the 26 ppm product being laboratory produced. silvermedicine
As PPM is NOT an indicator of strength, we manufacture the solution to be of the correct particle size, up to a maximum of 26 PPM. We therfore specify our solution as being "Full Strength" with a silver content of 14,000 ug/l as specified on our test accrediatation certificate from UKAS.

Although extremely rare, Argyria is something to avoid. The smallest every day quantity that we tend to use is the humble teaspoon. I wanted to ensure that the dose my family and I take is based on this common measure. From my research (See below) I have concluded that 1 teaspoon of 12-14 PPM Colloidal Silver equates to 50 micro grams of silver which is exactly the nutritional amount suggested. Some sites sell 30 ppm or 100 ppm. How do you measure 1/3 or 10th of a teaspoon? In everyday life, we would probably take more than we need if the concentration was higher. My opinion is that it is unsafe to sell Colloidal Silver at high concentrations. See Argyria and Stan Jones below.
The size of the silver particles is more important than the concentration (PPM). The particles must be in the range of 0.001 to 0.04 microns otherwise they will be ineffective. You wouldn't ask for a box of 20 bolts, you would specify the size. A Colloidal Silver solution of 26 PPM but has a particle size over .04 microns will be ineffective but you would be mislead into thinking it was twice as strong. Silvermedicine.org state that it is not possible to make Colloidal Silver over 25-26 PPM without using additives which are totally undesirable & can lead to Argyria.
There are two basic forces in action in a Colloidal Silver solution. Firstly there is the negative charge on the silver particles which repel each other but there is also the Van der Waals "Inter molecular" force which is attracting them. The repelling force is a function of the distance between the particles and behaves as an inverse square law where the force increases 4 time if the distance between the particles is halved. I theorise that in higher concentrations of Colloidal Silver, as there are more particles per unit volume, the forces are higher and the particles attract, agglomerating (Combining together) to produce larger particles. This will continue until the distance between the particles is sufficient for the forces to be in balance again but you have ended up with larger particles. If the particles become too large they will be ineffective. So a lower PPM is actually better ! Strange but true. As the particle size is more important, we label our product accordingly stating the particle size first and then the manufactured PPM. All Colloidal Silver solutions will agglomerate to some extent until the solution has attained equilibrium.
That is why we mature our Colloidal Silver to ensure it is stable. As it matures, the PPM will reduce slightly and the particle size will increase. As long as the final size is within .001 to .04 microns, it is effective. There are many factors that determine the final size including voltage/current field strength between the electrodes.
There are also external factors such as ambient temperatures local RF emissions and even factors such as the Earth's magnetic field. We constantly have to monitor and alter the final current and find we have to reduce it in the summer months when ambient temperatures are higher. Remember the difference between the sizes of .04 and .001 is a factor of forty but this is only the diameter of the particles NOT the volume. The volume is much greater than this.
"Two teaspoons of 5 ppm colloidal silver provides about 50 mcg of silver and could be considered a "nutritional" amount, if taken on a daily basis. Any amount above four teaspoons a day or 100 mcg should be considered a "therapeutic" amount. That said, it should not be assumed that electro-colloidal silver is equivalent to or has the same metabolic effect as receiving trace silver from dietary plant sources. But since there are very few plant sources of trace silver available today, colloidal silver is probably the best substitute. If you want to experiment with taking colloidal silver for an extended period of time, stay within the amounts considered to be nutritional. If you want to experiment with larger doses, do so with caution, and only for a day or two at a time."Excerpt from "A Closer Look At Colloidal Silver" By Peter A. Lindemann,
It would suggest that from the above one teaspoon (5ml) of 10ppm Colloidal Silver is a nutritional amount.
"The EPA has indicated that there is no known risk associated for an average adult to consume up to 7 teaspoons daily of 10 ppm for 70 years when manufactured according to the above attributes. For therapeutic purposes, doctors may use this as a general guideline to escalate dosages over a shorter time period. As a dietary supplement, the safety parameters of this product description serves a wide spectrum of patient populations. For example, this same EPA guideline would permit 14 teaspoons to be consumed daily for up to 35 years. Or, a doctor may even wish to utilize graduated dosages, and over time suggest that their patients take under supervision up to 7 Tablespoons daily. Due to the silver's purity, these recommendations should advise the patient to always take the product on an empty stomach, which may then be followed by food 25 minutes later."

The body utilises selenium to help eliminate silver from the body-- Silver bonds with selenium. When the body is depleted of selenium, the amount of silver deposited into tissues is drastically increased. This was conclusively demonstrated by a researcher known as Petering in the 1970's. http://www.silvermedicine.org/argyria.html
In the event that greater doses are required for long term treatments, dietary measures to augment the body's elimination system are likely a good idea, including Selenium and Vitamin E supplementation and proper hydration of the body. http://www.silvermedicine.org/safety.html
Both Selenium and Vitamin E are known to be excellent antioxidants used to reduce and eliminate free radicals from the body. Selenium seems to be important in the mechanism of removing excess silver from the body. If you feel you could be lacking in Selenium and Vitamin E we would certainly recommend a supplement.
We can supply an Antioxidant pack with Selenium and a Daily nutritional supplement - See the ORDER pages.

From our extensive research, we have discovered there are many good & bad practices and we have included the following in our own procedures. See Process for more information.

The honest answer is yes but from my research I have found that it is very easy to make bad colloidal silver and quite difficult to make good Colloidal Silver.
Quality is very important and there is a wealth of advice available, most of it conflicting. Some sites say the solution should be brown. Some say anything less than 500ppm is a waste of time and money -That's because they are selling you Mild Silver Protein which is dangerous.
I also found the most difficult aspect is obtaining steam distilled water, as most water is deionised these days. As mentioned above, we have invested in our own steam distillation units because our research has shown that this is the best. We also use Electronic Stabilised Power Supply Units with current limiting, so we can adjust the voltage & current levels accurately. Our original research test generator MK1 used batteries. It worked well for the first 3-4 batches but as the voltage dropped, the final product was found to be unstable & inferior. This was due to the change in particle size.

I have found that my technical background is essential to know when something isn't quite right. It has also helped me in my research and helped identify many sites who, in my opinion, recommend quite unsafe practices.
What's the most dangerous part of a car? Its the nut behind the steering wheel! There are many reason why we don't sell generators, especially our design. There are commercial generators available for purchase but I have found it is imperative that anyone who makes Colloidal Silver is qualified to do so. With any manufacturing process, quality assurance can only be implemented by personnel who know what they are doing.
Although the process seems fairly simple, the dynamics of the reaction are quite complex and understanding when the process isn't working is very important. Without knowledge and training, its very easy to make bad colloidal silver.
In addition to having the right equipment, steam distilled water is very difficult to obtain. This is why certain generator manufacturers recommend additives. This is completely wrong advice.
I did consider putting a kit together, including the steam distillation unit but it would have to retail for around £2,500 because of the cost of the distillation & the high degree of training required.
In the end, we do not sell or intend to sell generators and I feel that although there are some good generators, they are sold to people who have little or no understanding. This may be fine for your own self-use but not for commercial sale, unless quality can be guaranteed.

This depends on the concentration of the final colloid. The Colloidal Silver should be clear with a yellow/golden tinge. The colour only appears with concentrations over 5 PPM. It is easy to see this colour in large vessels but is less obvious in small quantities. See PROCESS section for pictures. The colour is caused by light scattering :
"Nanoparticles often have unexpected visible properties because they are small enough to scatter visible light rather than absorb it. For example gold nanoparticles appear deep red to black in solution." Wikipedia
All silver products are susceptible to oxidation from light, temperature and exposure to air. The cooler and more shaded the storage, the longer it will keep. We used to keep ours in the fridge but this is unnecessary and normal ambient room temperature is fine. In theory, it could last for years but we recommend 9 months for glass & 6 months for our thick wall PET plastic.
This is the end of this section.
