Determining Silver Content & Colloid Detection
This page was written to provide an independant unbiased update to a review questioning the silver & colloidal content of our solutions. (Batch CS14/24205)
How do you determine Silver content?
Our manufacturing process produces both ionic silver and colloidal silver particles. We use the following process for the meaursement of the total silver in solution and the prescence of colloidal particles.
The generator design was optimised & tested with the help of chemists from Plymouth University where we had access to the microscopy lab and ICPOES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy) to determine particle size which has been certified to EC1223/2009. This sets the base manufacturing settings.
In our lab we use a range of different devices to measure pH, PPM & conductivity meters then use independant test laboratories to verify our findings. Further independant tests are carriend out at external laboratories such as South West Water Laboratories (Topsham, Exeter) and Somerset Scientific Services in Wellington, Somerset.
Batch CS14/24205 was sent to Somerset Scientific Services for analysis and confirmed at 13,300 ug/l or approximately 13 PPM which is ideal. Remember a good colloidal silver solution is about the particle size range, not the PPM.

Colloid detection & the Tyndal effect
Testing a colloid for the presence of silver particles is a simple process using a laser. For best results, perform this test in a dark room.
Left Image: The presence of colloidal particles can be seen in the right hand picture. The column of red light confirms the presence of silver particles through light scattering after it hits the particles. This is the Tyndal effect.
